1. Check your network configuration.

Open Start Menu and hit Run. Then enter cmd and press Enter. When command prompt window opens, type ipconfig.

Note: Device and your PC have to be in the same network. In this case, my PC’s IP address is 192.168.1.170 so IP address of time clock has to be in the same format: 192.168.1.XXX. If for example, your IP address is 192.168.2.12, you would use 192.168.2.XXX for your time clock.

2. Find an unused IP address in your network.

Ping addresses within your network (in my case, 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254) until you find one that gives “Request timed out” or “Destination host unreachable”. In this case, I found an unused IP address which is 192.168.1.239. I will assign this IP address to my time clock.

If you have IT persons or network specialists in the company, please ask them for assistance for the best result.

3. Change network setting on the time clock.

On the time clock itself, go to Menu->Comm.->Network and change the IP address from there.

4. Ping new IP address.

In command prompt, ping your device’s new IP address. If there are replies from this IP address, continue to the next step. If not, go back to step 2.

5. Change device settings in UBD.

Open PayPunch, go to Tools tab->UBD Options->Edit device and change its IP address and then test connection.

6. Connection Failed? Contact our support team.

If you encounter an error “Error occurred during download process. See ubd_error.log for the details.” in PayPunch, please try the following:

1. Check “ubd_error.log” and find out which time clock caused the error?

Where can I find this log?

Win XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Xpress Software\Universal Biometric Driver\ubd_error.log

Win 7/8: C:\Program Data\Xpress Software\Universal Biometric Driver\ubd_error.log

2. Go to Tools tab->UBD Options->Edit Device and “Test connection”. If connection is ok, try to download attendance logs again. If connection failed, go to step 3.

Note: Make sure Device Type is correct and use Port 4370 for all time clocks except HandPunch devices. Use Port 3001 for all HandPunch devices.

3. Ping device IP address (Host). If you get a reply from this command, but connection still failed, change device IP (see instruction) and try again. 

If you received message “request time out” or “destination host unreachable”, go to next step.

How to Ping IP Address?

Open Start Menu and hit Run. Then enter cmd and press Enter. When command prompt window opens, type ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address that you have assigned to the device and press Enter.

4. Go to the time clock and make sure that internet cable is plugged in securely.

5. If device still cannot be pinged, check your network and router settings and then try again.

1. Download PayPunch Enterprise from our official website.

2. Run the setup file.

3. Check both PayPunch and Universal Biometric Driver when selecting component to be installed.

4. Create a new database.

5. Select SQL Server as Database Type.

6. Enter your SQL Server Name, Login and Password (Admin account). Test connection and make sure connection is successful before proceeding to the next step.

7. Click Next>, Next>. Software will be installed and PayPunch SQL Server database will be created.

8. Open SQL Server Management Studio and check if PayPunch database is created.

9. Run PayPunch Enterprise. Create a company and then check if this record is written to SQL Server database.

IMPORTANT: database file must be located on the same computer where you have installed UBD.

1. Find out Version and Edition of your PayPunch software.

Open PayPunch software, go to Help tab click on About Form. Contact Support.

2. Backup PayPunch database. Please refer to the following steps for proper procedure:

2.1. Start PayPunch and login as administrator.

2.2. Open Tools > UBD options.

2.3. Stop and then uninstall the UBD Service.

2.4. Locate PayPunch database (xscommon.mdb file).

2.5. Backup your database file and transfer it to a secure location on your new PC using a USB Flash Drive.

2.6. Exit PayPunch.

3. On your new PC, Download PayPunch software.

4. Launch the installation file.

5. Put check marks for PayPunch and Universal Biometric driver.

6. When choosing database, use Create New Database.

7. Finish the installation.

8. Run PayPunch and check if application is running well. If yes, close application.

9. Open database folder (path in step 6). Rename current database and then move old database here (XSCommon.mdb).

10. Log back into PayPunch.

We are excited to announce that Universal Biometric Driver Push Mode is finally ready! This feature will be available in our new PayPunch Version 10 which will be released really soon.

What is Push Mode?

In contrast to the traditional Service Mode, where computer retrieves information from the time clocks, time clocks send information to the computer in Push Mode. Push Mode is an ideal solution for companies with large number of time clocks.

To prepare our valued customers for this new release, this post will explain to you how to install and configure UBD Server step by step.

In order to install and run UBD Server, please make sure Internet Information Service (IIS) and ASP.NET MVC 2.0 are installed and running.

Also be sure that you have administrative user rights on the computer. By default, you do not have administrative user rights if you are logged on as a user other than the built-in administrator, even if you were added to the local Administrators group on the computer.

Follow procedure below to verify if your system has both services installed.

Install IIS 7

To open the Windows Features dialog box, click Start, and then click Control Panel.

In the Control Panel, click Programs.

Click Turn Windows features on or off.

You may receive the Windows Security warning. Click Allow to continue. The Windows Features dialog box is displayed.

Expand Internet Information Services. Additional categories of IIS features are displayed. Select the check boxes for all IIS features, and then click OK to start installation.

The progress indicator appears.

When the installation completes, the Windows Features dialog box closes, and the Control Panel is displayed.

Restart computer.

IIS 7 is now installed with a default configuration on Windows Vista or Windows 7.  To confirm that the installation succeeded, type the following URL into your browser, http://localhost.

Install UBD Server

1. Download PayPunch version 10.

2. The installation is conducted through the help of Master Installer and requires a number of steps. During the process, the following buttons are available: “Back” (to go back to previous step), “Next” (to continue the installation of PayPunch) and “Cancel” (to interrupt the installation of the PayPunch).

3. When asked to select components, select PayPunch, Universal Biometric Driver. Select PayPunch Web Login only when you need it. Click on Next> button to go to the second step of the installation.

4. Select “New Database” option box when you are installing PayPunch for the first time or when you are re-installing PayPunch and would like to abate database data from the previous installation.

5. Select “Existing Database” option box when you are upgrading PayPunch installation.

6. Click on Next> button to go to the next step of the installation.

7. Select “MS Access” if you would like to use Microsoft Access Database as the database type. Select “SQL Server” if you would like to use Microsoft SQL Server Database as the database type.

8. Click on Next> button to go to the next step of the installation.

9. Wait approximately a half of minute, watching how PayPunch install itself…

10. Run PayPunch after installation.

11. Go to Tools->UBD Options->Server and install UBD Server.

12. You may receive the message below if ASP.NET MVC 2 is not installed on this computer.

13. Click Yes to install ASP.NET MVC 2 on this computer.

14. A message will be displayed, indicates that ASP.NET MVC 2 has been installed successfully.

15. When you click Finish, the Microsoft ASP.NET MVC 2 Setup dialog box closes, and the UBD Server page is displayed. Choose Install and UBD Server will be installed.

16. To confirm that the installation succeeded, type the following URL into your browser, http://localhost:81.

Configuring UBD Server

1. Enable “Push Mode” on the time clock. On the time clock, go to Main Menu->Comm. -> Web Setup. Select “IP Mode” and enter your server’s local or global IP Address. Use Port Number 81.

2. Go to UBD Options->TCP/IP option and select “Add New Device”.

3. Select Server as Connection Type.

4. Find the Serial Number from the back of the device and enter it in Serial Number field. Click OK once finished. Device will be rebooted.

5. If the configuration succeeded, time clock’s information will be shown in Logs section.

PayPunch Web Login is a component of PayPunch Time and Attendance Software. It allows employees to make punches through a web page or using their smart phone remotely.

Installing PayPunch Web Login

If you are installing PayPunch for the first time…

1. Download PayPunch.

2. Run PayPunch setup file.

3. Select PayPunch, Universal Biometric Driver and PayPunch Web Login.

4. Create New Database.

5. Select Database Type: Microsoft Access.

6. Click Next> until finished.

If you already have PayPunch installed…

1. Open Windows Start Menu->All Programs->Xpress Software->PayPunch and select Uninstall PayPunch.

2. Select Add Remove Features.

3. Select Select PayPunch, Universal Biometric Driver and PayPunch Web Login.

4. Select Existing Database.

5. Select your Database Type.

6. Click Next> until finished.

Configuring PayPunch Web Login and IIS 7

PayPunch Web Login is a web application so please make sure you have IIS (Internet Information Service) installed. Microsoft .NET Framework is also required.

Install IIS on Windows XP

Install IIS on Windows 7 or Windows Vista

Open IIS Manager (Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager), click Application Pool.

Click on Advanced Settings.

Set .NET Framework Version to v2.0. Set Enable 32-Bit Application to True (If you are using 64bit Operating System) and Process Model Identity to NetworkService.

Congratulations ! ! PayPunch Web Login should be up and running.

Please go Start Menu, Xpress Software, PayPunch and run PayPunch Web Login to verify.

The number of employees you may manage by PayPunch software is restricted by your PayPunch License. This message “You cannot change status of employee because of license limitation” indicates that you have used up all your Employee Licenses in PayPunch.

How to check my License Limitation?

Go to Help tab, click on About and find the number besides “Maximum Active Employees”. That is the number of employee licenses you own. This license only controls the number of active employees in the system, thus, inactive employees are not counted.

How many employees do I have in PayPunch at this moment?

Go to Employees tab and select the company from the Employee Tree. On the lower left corner of the window, you will find the total number of employees in the selected company. This number includes both active and inactive employees.

I’ve checked the numbers. What can I do now?

1. Look for former employees who are still marked as “Active” in PayPunch. Active employees are in black color whereas inactive employees are in red.
2. Edit Employees and deselect “Active” checkbox to make them inactive.
3. Select the new employee and make this employee “Active”.

What if everyone in the list is current employee?
